Artist Statement

I do not remember a time when I did not love art and architecture. As a child, I enjoyed painting, drawing and sketching out floor plans. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I rearrange my childhood bedroom. So when I went to college, I decided to study both art and interior design. Since art and design work hand in hand, it has only benefited my growth as an artist.
I create geometric abstract acrylic paintings. I like to simplify and break down subject matter and their surroundings into basic shapes and lines. When I paint, I concentrate on color, shape, line and texture; all of which are critical elements in interior design. My cityscape and bridge paintings vary from real places to imaginary worlds that I create in my mind. Along with these structural pieces, I also paint basic abstract geometric blocks and grids. When I was first commissioned to paint fish, I decided to incorporate my grid into the painting. I saw the grid as representing both the scales on the fish and also the plant life in the sea.
I am inspired to create paintings that fit beautifully into interior spaces. Most of my inspirations that come from other artists are those from my favorite art movements, Cubism, Impressionism, Expressionism and Fauvism. I hope to continually explore and learn from myself and my art.
